                          John B. Mayes                 Fine Artist Biography

Fine artist John B. Mayes was born 1974 in Kentucky to Master Craftsman Danny D. Mayes and artisan Jackie D. Mayes.  From a young age it was evident John's focus was on art.  Spending every waking hour drawing, painting and creating, he pursued his dream to become the modern Leonardo DaVinci.  John seized every opportunity to excel and further his skills and rare talent.  His eclectic talent has earned him recognition in numerous publications from local newspapers to Southern Accents and Veranda Magazines in later years.  John works with all mediums and specializes in paint and sculpture.  After graduating high school in 1993, John moved to Houston, Texas.  His talent was then noticed by well known artist Jay Iarussi, an Italian artist who specialized in the decorative arts with whom he completed a four year artist apprenticeship.  He worked in places such as: New York, Napa Valley, California, Sarasota, Florida as well as many areas surrounding Houston.  John's work as an apprentice in The Palace Cafe Downtown Houston won Interior Design of the Year by Southern Accents Magazine in 1997. There are many other notable accomplishments by John as he is such a unique artist.  John is able to bring any creative concept to reality.  Now living in Southern Mississippi happily married with a family, he is focused on expanding his portfolio and seeking the next artistic challenge.
